We have had a busy, busy, busy week!! Learning about Memorial day, being patriotic and red white and blue! The kids have been doing great, they love the states song -- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cMp3-fDL6Do.
This week we are learning about red, white and blue, our nation even different types of the armed forces. This week we had a special video from one of my old friends that is a marine! His wife saw the pictures of our flags and our bulletin boards and wanted to personally say thank you to the kids! Now he is in North Carolina with his family on base but he was in our class this week! We made flags for our hallway using paint brushes and our thumbs! Then with Mrs. Paye for our weekly reader time we cut out red and blue stars and put our hand prints in white paint on them! We took a class picture that we will send to Mr. Lashua in the mail with a thank you card! We also made frisbees this week out of paper plates! We are having a busy but really great week this week in 4K! We have had a busy, busy, busy week!! Learning about Memorial day, being patriotic and red white and blue! WE ARE GOING ON A PICNIC, WE ARE GOING ON A PICNIC! Who wants to come? It has been a fun beginning to our week here in 4K! We are learning about picnics, what to bring, what you do, who to bring, etc. On Monday we learned what goes into a picnic basket. Our first activity was for the students to determine what items handed out went in our basket some of the items were food but some were also a mouse, an ant, keys, etc. The students enjoyed the activity and learned what should go in a basket when we go on a picnic! Then they made little picnic baskets that we sent home that they made! Our friends in 4K are learning and growing so fast! On Tuesday and Wednesday, we had some busy days! Learning about picnics, and what to bring is hard work! We created small picnic baskets and on Tuesday we started our two day project for our picnics that we are putting up in our classroom! The students created their picnic "table cloths" for the base of our project. Now tomorrow we are going to be going through old magazines to find food products to glue on a plate to create our picnic! This is going to be a fun project to bring some 3D effects to our classroom! This beautiful weather outside is the perfect thing for a picnic!! No matter the day, no matter the lesson, these kids make my day so much better just being around them! Since starting to teach at St. Mary's I have been blessed by God to not only have met these 15 amazing people, but to have had the opportunity to meet all of the students in the school and the teachers/support staff. God has blessed me to have been put in this school, and in this classroom! Thank you for allowing me to work with your students! Not only am I teaching them, they are also teaching me. On Thursday, we had an extremely busy day!! We had our last 4K mass this morning! We had a busy, busy day trying to get everything in for the day. We finished our picnic blankets by gluing our plate, food, fork and napkin to it! The kids had to color their food first and then they glued it onto the plate! This week going on a picnic has been great and has gone by so fast! I have learned how generous and thoughtful all of these students are! We had a glue spill in one of our tubs at table 1 and 5 of our students without being asked decided to take everything out, clean it and the supplies! Then they continued and gave up their free play time to try and clean the other to tubs. As well the girls and boys alike picking dandelions for me, the other teachers, baby Abby, Mrs. Agamaite, etc. They are so sweet and generous always thinking about others. As well today we heard a siren of a police car go by our window and they reminded me that we needed to stop everything, face the cross and pray that everyone would be ok. Our friend Lauren finally came back from her trip to Florida on Monday and it was great to have her back in the room! She was more than happy and excited to show off all of her pictures and princess/character autographs that she got at the Disney park! She also brought in some seashells from Florida for her friends to look at! She was a great "little teacher" making sure that everyone could see and that everyone was sitting on their bottoms. WELCOME BACK LAUREN! In gym we had to do it inside because it was raining out! So we made a hopscotch to not only have fun and keep active but to learn at the same time! Our hopscotch has sight words, letters and numbers on it that you have to say when you hop on it! The kids had fun and they were also able to do yoga (cosmic kids yoga on youtube!). It was good that they were able to move and get some energy out! This week we were working on our math skills by working on number sequence on abcya.com and we learned about money! We learned what the value of the different coins are and had to sort them depending on value. They are all so smart! Here is the link to work on money and to work on numbers, letters, etc. http://www.abcya.com/learning_coins.htm (coins) http://www.abcya.com/kindergarten_computers.htm (kindergarten). Hello 4K families! I hope you all are having a FANTASTIC start to your week! Just as a precaution because some of our friends got a little burnt last week. During the days where the sun will be out and warmer than usual if need be please send sunblock with your child if need be. Thank you for your help! Any questions or concerns please feel free to give me a call or email me! Thank you again, enjoy the sun!
Ms. Luce :) [email protected] This week was a total whirlwind, we were learning about flowers all week and the different parts to them. Throughout the week when we would go out for our morning and afternoon recesses the students were obsessed with picking every single dandelion in the field that they could find! I found this to be the perfect time for a group shot of the class! They are all growing up so fast, just like flowers they are quickly growing into kindergarteners!! We created our flower projects by painting with puff balls that correlated with the colored paint. (blue puff ball with blue paint, etc.) We let those dry and thank you Mrs. Johnson for cutting them out for us! The next day we constructed our flowers - we had to cut out our stems and four leaves, then glue everything down. Once these things were on their paper they were able to get some "roots" to glue to the bottom. Once the students flowers were completed they used the example on the board to label their picture with the words: flower, leaf, stem and roots. They did such a great job with their printing of their letters and making the words on their papers. The flowers have definitely brought some color and light to our hallway!! Another huge project that was happening in 4K this week was our mother's day projects! We created beautiful painted flower pots and the kids were able to choose to put puff balls and/or puffy paint on them! They turned out great! We then filled out an "All About Mom" survey that they kids answered and I dictated what they said. Then we sent home a "If you Give a Mom a Muffin" poem with the pot because we "grew muffins" for our moms! The students loved the idea and we put a muffin in the pot along with the personal survey and poem. (It took some real will power for most of them to not eat the muffins! I have a whole classroom of "future teachers" they hold the books like I do when I am teaching them and make sure that their "students" can see everything! They are showing some real skills! As well we checked our beans on Thursday (2 more weeks!) and they are growing like crazy! (Pictures below) Everyone have a great week! Just a friendly reminder for our warmer months coming up in April and June. Please remember that the students are NOT allowed to wear flip-flops to school and no shorts please until the 15th of May.
If there are any questions or concerns, please feel free to call or email me. Everyone have a great and warm weekend! :) Ms. Luce We have had a very eventful "short" 4 day week here in 4K! We first off got a new door to our room, "Time for S'more Learning 4K!" and the campfire definitely keeps us warm in our room. Our theme this week was Brown Bear, Brown Bear What do you See? and focusing a lot of attention on our color words. To start off the week we read our big book of Brown Bear Brown Bear and the kids could read it by heart, so there they were reading it right along with me. By the end of this week they didn't have to guess their color words in the book they just knew them! We made a class book where every student had to choose a favorite character that they would want to see in the book and draw their picture and write what it was. We brainstormed some ideas and once they were all done I took their papers and combined and laminated them to be in this "class book" of Brown Bear, Brown Bear What do you See? It is available in our classroom library so they are able to look at it whenever we have free reading time. Throughout the week we were doing different projects based on our theme. They are all getting very good at applying their knowledge of color words to finding them when reading or identifying them in projects. Again in science we are patiently watching our green bean seeds in the window waiting for Thursday to come along. We are working on our scientist observation logs in the pictures below and observing the beans up close. They went from brown speckled beans to what you see in the picture below. We have three more weeks to watch them grow and observe and recording what we see happening. It will be interesting to see what the kids think about them next week. When we were anxiously checking the beans on Wednesday we looked at the bag and felt the beans through the wet paper towel they are wrapped in. Almost all of the students observations were that the beans felt squishy. We have had a great time this past week being able to finally go outside and not shiver. The sun has been out and we have had a lot of fun with friends. Some of the kids new favorite things are the monkey bars and picking dandelions that they see in the grass around the playground. The minute you open the door for them to go out to the playground, they shoot off like little mini rockets ready to run and play. They have some full days but some great days together! This Thursday was a very busy day that twisted our schedule a bit but the kids loved it! Every Thursday Father comes in and talks to the kids and teaches a lesson. They always have a million and one questions for him, but he is great with them answering them all. Then today we had a special visitor come to St. Mary's; we had an author visit and the kids got to ask questions and learn more about her, her beautiful pictures, her books and her amazing animal filled garden. This week we have been having trouble with markers somehow "crawling" or "flying" to another tables marker bin. So there have been a lot of disputes of which groups marker is who's. I said that I would write the table numbers on the marker bins and the markers in those bins. So Mrs. Zellner, who is with us in the morning before Mrs. Johnson gets her, put numbers on the bin and the markers with the number of that group. She is our superhero in 4K, she saved us at the beginning of the week and brought some markers from downstairs that are never used to our room. Then during snack we discussed what was done with the markers and we had a mini-lesson on what it means to borrow something and how to borrow it properly. We will see how things go next week with the different numbered marker bins, hoping it will help "bring peace to the 4K kingdom". (We are also thinking of buying new markers this weekend because most of them are very dry)
First off I want to introduce myself again, my name is Abby Luce or better known to the kids Ms. Luce. I graduated from St. Norbert with my degree in Early Childhood/Elementary Education this past May 2014 and completed my student teaching as of January 2015. My ultimate passion is to teach and inspire, as well as to be taught and inspired by the children/students around me. Just from being here for a couple days so far I have already grown to care about every student in Mrs. Agamaite's 4K class. They are all so unique and so willing to help me learn their routines. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to call or email me at the number below. I am looking forward to finishing out the year with this fantastic group of children. This last week our theme was spring! We are attempting to wake spring up from its long winter's nap by reading some spring books, as well as doing projects that relate to spring time. Here is how our week looked last week! All week we were reviewing our letters G and T and our sight word PLAY. On Monday and Tuesday we made robins that are in flight right outside our classroom window! On Tuesday night Mrs. Agamaite went into the hospital and had her beautiful baby girl! Abigail Lynn Agamaite was born on April 22nd, 2015 at 7 lbs 10 oz. She is absolutely beautiful and we are all very excited to meet our newest "4K friend". On Wednesday we made stain glass umbrellas for our windows which made the room very bright and colorful. We had them up but the tape did not want to stick; we are making more projects within the next coming weeks to stick around the room and halls. Thursday we all became scientists in 4K! We planted our bean seeds in our baggie on our window, we will check them each week for five weeks to see how they are progressing.
We had a very busy and exciting week last week! Mrs. Agamaite having Baby Abby (as she is known in our classroom now), trying to wake up spring and making some great projects for our classroom. I am so happy to be apart of this amazing classroom for the rest of the year. Below are some pictures from our week in 4K this past week and a video that we sent to Mrs. Agamaite and Baby Abby in the hospital! Ms. Luce 715-218-7538 [email protected] This week we are focusing on the signs of spring. Today we came up with a list of things that tell us spring is here. We also started a robin project. We have many robins living outside our classroom window. It's a sure sign of spring!! We are reviewing letter sounds G and T this week. We are concentrating on not getting our G and J sound confused. This week our color work is Yellow and our sight word is play. Have a great Monday! No school next Monday 4/27. It is a teacher inservice day. The annual St. Mary's talent show will once again be taking place. If your child has a special talent he or she would like to share with the school this is a perfect opportunity. The sign up sheet is located outside the 4k classroom or you can send a note to school with your child. This is an event that takes place during school hours parents are welcome to come. It will be on June 2nd. Tomorrow is the annual St. Mary's school dance. The dance goes from 3:00-5:30. Parents do not need to attend the dance with their child. However parents will need to provide pick-up transportation for their child at 5:30. There was a small mix-up with the dance permission slip. With that being said please send a note with your child if he/she will be attending the dance tomorrow. |
